Rivers Alive on Lake Oconee Community Project

The annual cleanup on Lake Oconee, part of the statewide Rivers Alive program, will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Since 2002, Lake Oconee Water Watch has organized and sponsored this event.

Registration will be held from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Harmony Community Association building on Highway 44. All supplies will be provided (gloves, trash bags, bottled water, sun screen, etc.). Volunteers will pick up trash on land and by boat, and scuba divers will remove debris from the lake bed. The cleanup will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at noon, with lunch following until about 1:30 p.m.

All trash collected will be taken to Old Salem Park.  Volunteers will be photographed along with the results of their hard work.  Rivers Alive t-shirts will be given to all participants (while supplies last). After the cleanup, volunteers will be treated to lunch in the park by Georgia Power.

Groups and individuals of all ages are welcome to participate. Volunteers are also needed to help with pre-event preparations, registration, and organizational work.  To sign up to help in any capacity, send an email to riversalivelakeoconee@gmail.com.
