eBooks Are Here!

The Lake Oconee Academy media center now has a service available that provides web-based access to 159 eBooks.  FollettShelf is the host for LOA’s eBooks.  Students and teachers can access and read the eBooks from any location that has internet access.  All that is required is a user name and password to access the eBooks for online reading, online checkouts and/or downloads of the books.

Access to LOA’s eBooks may be reached at http://.follettshelf.com. The link is also on the LOA Media Center class page on the LOA website.   Users will simply click on the link, login with their user name and password, and access is granted!  The initial page shows the covers of all the eBooks in the collection.  A search box is located at the top for finding specific eBooks, subjects, authors, etc.  Patrons can click on a cover image to read online (similar to taking a library book off the shelves in a traditional library just to browse through it) or to checkout online and/or checkout download (similar to checking out a library book from a traditional library to take home).

Patrons will be able to determine whether or not an item is available by looking at the status indicator in the top right-hand corner of each eBook’s cover image.
•    “IN” means at least one copy of the book is available.
•    “IN USE” means that at least one copy of the eBook is not checked out, but is actively being used by another patron and may become available soon.
•    “OUT” means that all copies of the eBook are checked out to patrons.

After completing a checkout online, students may access the eBooks by using the ‘My Info’ function.  If the patron has downloaded an eBook, the Follett Offline Reader is used to read the eBook.  Students are allowed to keep eBooks for a period of five days.  After that time period, the eBook automatically checks itself in and the eBook immediately becomes available to other patrons.   However, students can return eBooks prior to their due date by selecting the appropriate function in the Follett Online Reader or the Follett Offline Reader.
