LOA Cheerleaders Share Spirit with Greene County Recreation Department

The Lake Oconee Academy Varsity Basketball Cheerleaders recently partnered with the Greene County Recreation Department to spend an evening leading a special practice with the GCRD cheer squads. The event was filled with spirit, smiles and community connection as LOA cheerleaders mentored younger athletes and shared their love for the sport.

The service project was the vision of Jordan Chaffin, a LOA senior, who approached her coach, Katherine Nolley, with the idea of volunteering to give back the community. Together, they worked to launch the initiative, and the first session was an overwhelming success.

“I am so incredibly proud of the leadership displayed by all these young ladies,” said Coach Nolley. “What a joy it is to serve the children in our community alongside our cheerleaders.”

During the practice, LOA cheerleaders led warmups, taught cheers and encouraged the GCRD participants, leaving the younger athletes inspired and energized. The collaboration was a true example of teamwork, mentorship and building bridges between LOA and the broader Greene County community.

“Serving others is at the heart of being a Titan,” said Jordan. “It was fun to see our cheerleaders work with the younger girls and share what we love.”

Pete O’Neal, Director of the Greene County Recreation Department, shared, “Having the LOA cheerleaders work with our squads was a great opportunity. The younger athletes not only learned new skills but also gained role models to look up to.”

LOA plans to continue supporting the GCRD cheer program through additional service in the future, strengthening the bonds of community.
