Lake Oconee Academy’s youngest Titans had a big week of learning, discovery and excitement as they celebrated Community Helper Week. For five days, Pre-K students gained a better understanding of the important roles people play in making our community safe, healthy and thrive.
Our Pre-Kers welcomed a variety of special visitors who shared details about their jobs and how they serve others. From firefighters and police officers to doctors, farmers and mail carriers, each guest brought tools, stories and real-world connections that sparked wide-eyed wonder.
The highlight for many students was obvious when a local fire truck arrived on campus, complete with flashing lights and water hoses ready to explore. Some were intrigued to try out real stethoscopes with medical staff, while others enjoyed learning how farmers grow the food we eat. In addition to meeting community helpers, students dressed up as their “favorite helper” each day, proudly wearing hard hats, doctor coats, chef aprons and more, truly bringing the lessons to life through imaginative play.
“Community Helper Week is about more than just learning job titles,” explained LOA Pre-K teacher Emily Thompson. “It’s about helping children recognize that the people they see every day are valued members of both our local community and entire world. Thanks to a fun week, our students build gratitude and an excitement for learning.”
From police officers and teachers to veterinarians and even a few “superheroes,” our tiny Titans were proud to wrap up the week by announcing what they hope to be when they grow up. While their dreams may change, one thing is certain: Students are learning at an early age what it means to be part of a caring and connected community. Lake Oconee Academy is so proud to foster curiosity and appreciation for community service.
