BOG with Mrs. GA

Lake Oconee Academy had the honor of welcoming Dr. Shanita Williams — Mrs. Georgia American 2025, author, TEDx speaker, and nationally recognized leader in equity and inclusion — to campus for a special presentation that left a lasting impact on students and staff alike. Her visit aligned beautifully with LOA’s mission to cultivate strong character, leadership and personal growth in every student.

During her time on campus, Dr. Williams spoke to students about confidence, embracing challenges and discovering the strengths within themselves. She shared lessons from her career, her platform work in literacy and women’s empowerment and her book Unleashing Your Confidence, co-written with her daughter.

Students were captivated by her energy and authenticity. Fourth grader Julia Craig shared, “It was so fun and exciting because the actual Mrs. Georgia, who really won the contest, took time to come talk to us at our school.”

Before her presentation, Dr. Williams joined members of the LOA Board of Governors for dinner and conversations about leadership, purpose and empowering the next generation. Her warmth and sincerity made a meaningful impression on everyone she met.

“Dr. Williams brought such genuine joy and inspiration to our students,” said BOG member Jennifer Vaughn. “Her message about believing in yourself and using your gifts to serve others is exactly what we hope every LOA student carries with them.”

LOA is deeply grateful for the opportunity to host a role model whose work exemplifies excellence, resilience and service. Dr. Williams’ visit reminded students that confidence can be learned, leadership can be practiced and every person has unique gifts that deserve to shine.
