Lake Oconee Academy tenth grade students proudly participated in Youth Leadership Greene, a premier leadership development program that brings together students from across Greene County to grow as servant leaders and engaged community members.
On Tuesday, February 10, LOA students took part in a field experience focused on the theme of “Giving Back.” Throughout the day, students visited several nonprofit organizations serving the Greene County community, gaining firsthand insight into the impact of service and local outreach efforts.
“This experience gave students a tangible understanding of what it means to give back,” said Morgen Gay, Youth Leadership Greene Sponsor at LOA. “Leadership begins with service, and our students embraced that message wholeheartedly.”
The group began at Atlas Ministry, where students assisted with clean-up and organizational projects while learning about the organization’s mission and the populations it serves. From there, students visited Lakeside Church to learn about Victory Train, a program focused on supporting literacy and academic growth. LOA students helped assemble literacy kits that will be distributed to families with young children throughout Greene County.
The final stop of the day was the First Call Pregnancy Resource Center, where students learned about the wide range of services provided to mothers and families in the community, including material support, education and encouragement.
Through each visit, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of service, compassion and civic responsibility. Youth Leadership Greene continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect leadership development with real-world community engagement. LOA Student Madison Dykes shared, “It was inspiring to see how our community supports one another and how much we give to help others succeed. One important thing I took away from this experience is that our community is very generous and committed to making sure everyone truly has a wonderful education and many opportunities.”
Lake Oconee Academy is proud of these students for representing our school with professionalism and heart, while learning how to make a positive difference in Greene County
