Lake Oconee Academy is proud to recognize its band students for their outstanding performance at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 10 Solo & Ensemble event, held this April in Augusta, Georgia.
The Solo & Ensemble Festival is an adjudicated event that provides middle and high school band students the opportunity to perform prepared solos, duets, or small ensemble pieces for a professional judge. Students receive detailed feedback and are evaluated based on musicality, technique, and overall performance, earning ratings such as Superior or Excellent.
Participation in the event is voluntary, requiring students to commit to significant preparation outside of the regular school day. This year, LOA had a record 17 students participate, an impressive milestone for the program.
“These students dedicated countless hours to preparing their music,” said Band Director Courtney Pilgrim. “It takes a great deal of courage and discipline to perform individually in front of a judge, and I am incredibly proud of their hard work and growth.”
All LOA students who participated earned either Superior or Excellent ratings, an impressive accomplishment that reflects both their individual commitment and the strength of the school’s band program.
“I wanted to participate to challenge myself,” said Emmaline Gusfa, 7th grade saxophone player. “I know it wasn’t something I had to do, but I want to see how much I could improve by pushing myself further. At first, it was a little nerve-wracking at the performance, but once I started playing, I felt really proud of how prepared I was. It was a great experience, and I’m glad I decided to do it.”
Lake Oconee Academy congratulates these talented students for their dedication, courage, and outstanding accomplishments.
