Lake Oconee Academy Beta Club members Lynn Nation, a senior, and Chandler Clark, a junior, have each been awarded a $500 American Red Cross scholarship in recognition of their outstanding leadership and service in helping coordinate the school's highly successful blood drive program.

Behind the scenes, Nation and Clark played a vital role in bringing the blood drive program to life. From organizing details and encouraging participation to ensuring each event ran smoothly, their commitment and leadership helped create successful opportunities for students, staff, and community members to support the American Red Cross's lifesaving mission.

Earlier this year, LOA's blood drive collected 34 units of blood, including seven first-time donors, demonstrating the strong participation and community support behind the effort. The success of the drive qualified the school for a $1,000 American Red Cross scholarship. Recognizing the extraordinary contributions of Nation and Clark, LOA Beta Club Sponsor Kris Stevens requested permission from the American Red Cross to divide the scholarship equally between the two students rather than awarding it to a single graduating senior.

"Without Lynn and Chandler helping me run the show behind the scenes, it simply wouldn't have been possible," said Stevens. "They helped coordinate schedules, advertise the drive, put out signs, encourage students and community members to donate, and made sure everything was taken care of before, during, and after the event. Their dedication, work ethic, and servant hearts were instrumental to the success of our blood drive."

While dozens of Beta Club members volunteered during the blood drive, Nation and Clark assumed leadership responsibilities months before the event, ensuring every detail was in place to maximize participation from students, staff, and community members.

Their efforts also contributed to another milestone for Lake Oconee Academy. In recognition of the school's outstanding partnership with the American Red Cross, LOA was nominated for the Education Sponsor Group of the Year Award, honoring schools that demonstrate exceptional commitment to supporting patients through blood donation.

The scholarships recognize far more than successful event planning. They celebrate the leadership, initiative, and servant-hearted commitment that made the blood drive possible—qualities that remain central to both the Beta Club and Lake Oconee Academy's mission.

"One of the greatest lessons students can learn is that leadership isn't always in the spotlight," said Stevens. "Sometimes it's the quiet work behind the scenes that makes the biggest difference. Lynn and Chandler exemplified what it means to serve others with humility, responsibility, and compassion, and I couldn't be prouder of them."

Although much of their work happened behind the scenes, its impact reached far beyond campus. Every donor they recruited, every schedule they coordinated, and every detail they managed helped provide lifesaving blood products to patients across Georgia.

For Nation and Clark, the scholarships recognize months of quiet dedication and service. For Lake Oconee Academy, they serve as another reminder that some of the most meaningful lessons are learned not only in the classroom, but through leading with compassion, serving others, and making a difference in the lives of people they may never meet.
