Lake Oconee Academy has once again been recognized as a National Beta School of Distinction for the 2025-2026 school year. The recognition celebrates the school’s continued commitment to academic achievement, leadership, character, and service.

The national recognition is awarded to schools that demonstrate significant growth in National Beta membership, reflecting a school culture where more students are striving for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. According to the National Beta organization, only 2,959 Beta clubs across the country earned the distinction this year.

For Lake Oconee Academy, the award represents more than membership growth. It reflects a student body that embraces the values at the heart of National Beta: scholarship, leadership, character, and meaningful service to others.

“Our Beta students consistently represent the very best of Lake Oconee Academy,” said Beta Club Sponsor Kris Stevens. They are academically driven, eager to serve, and committed to making a positive impact in our school and community. One of the things I love most about Beta is that it inspires students to look for ways to serve others every day, not just during Beta activities. Whether they're helping a classmate, volunteering at a school event, or leading a community service project, they're learning that leadership begins with serving others. Seeing more students choose to become part of Beta each year is exciting because it shows these values continue to resonate with our students."

National Beta is the nation’s largest independent, nonprofit educational youth organization, recognizing high-achieving students while encouraging leadership development and service. At Lake Oconee Academy, Beta members regularly demonstrate those ideals through academic achievement, community involvement, leadership opportunities, and school service initiatives. Their commitment reflects LOA’s Cornerstones of Scholarship, Citizenship, and Community while supporting the school’s mission of preparing students for the global society in which we live, work, and play.

Dr. Brad Bowling, Chief Executive Officer of Lake Oconee Academy, said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of students, teachers, sponsors, and families who work together to foster a culture of excellence.

“This recognition speaks to the outstanding character and dedication of our students, as well as the educators who encourage them to pursue excellence every day,” said Bowling. “We are incredibly proud of our National Beta members and grateful to Mrs. Stevens for the leadership she provides. Being named a National Beta School of Distinction reflects the high expectations and supportive culture that define Lake Oconee Academy.”

As the new school year begins, the honor provides another opportunity to celebrate the students who exemplify Lake Oconee Academy’s commitment to scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Through their achievements and contributions, LOA’s Beta members continue to demonstrate what it means to lead with integrity and make a meaningful difference in their school and community.
