At Lake Oconee Academy, student success is never the work of the classroom alone. It is a shared commitment among educators, families and the broader school community. That philosophy was on full display during LOA’s recent Georgia Milestones Parent Nights, designed to bring families and school staff together for meaningful, practical conversations about student support and achievement.

The Parent Nights welcomed families of students in grades 3–4 on January 12, 2026, and grades 5–8 on January 22, 2026. Each evening opened with a special performance by the Elementary Chorus, setting a joyful and celebratory tone. Families then participated in informative sessions focused on understanding state testing and learning how to support students at home in positive, confidence-building ways. Both events created meaningful space for connection, collaboration and shared learning.

“These evenings are about partnership,” said Lower School Director Katelyn Mellow. “We want families to feel informed, empowered and confident, and to know they are a vital part of their child’s academic journey.”

During the sessions, teachers, instructional leaders and administrators guided families through the purpose and structure of the Georgia Milestones and End-of-Course assessments. Testing language was translated into clear, parent-friendly terms, helping families better understand how results are used to inform instruction. Parents also received practical strategies to support their children both academically and emotionally throughout testing season.

Equally important, families were encouraged to ask questions and engage in open dialogue with school leaders, building clarity, trust and a shared sense of purpose.

“Parents play a critical role in student success,” said Middle School Coordinator Carina Baxley. “When school expectations and home support align, students benefit in powerful ways. Our goal is always to build meaningful connections between families and the school, and I’m grateful for everyone who joined us and helped strengthen those partnerships.”

LOA designed the events with accessibility and hospitality in mind. Sessions were tailored by grade level, childcare was provided for school-age children, and families were welcomed with a popcorn bar, raffle prizes and jeans passes for their students. These thoughtful touches reinforced that family engagement should feel supportive, welcoming and even fun!

Attendance was strong at both evening events, reflecting the value LOA families place on being active partners in their children’s education. These Georgia Milestones Parent Nights exemplify how Lake Oconee Academy intentionally builds bridges between school and home. By creating opportunities for families to connect with educators, ask questions and gain practical tools, LOA continues to foster a culture where students are supported from every angle. Popcorn Bar

At LOA, education does not happen in isolation, it happens in partnership. As one parent shared following the event, “It was reassuring to hear directly from teachers and administrators, and to walk away knowing exactly how we can help our child succeed.”

Through initiatives like these, Lake Oconee Academy demonstrates that strong schools are built on strong relationships with student success a truly shared responsibility
