The Lake Oconee Academy Middle School and High School Band recently took their talents beyond campus, traveling to Tennessee to perform on Thursday March 26, as part of Dollywood’s 2026 “I Will Always Love You” Festival, a special opportunity to showcase their musicianship on a larger stage.
The Dollywood festival celebrates music and artistry, making it the perfect setting for LOA students to share their passion for performance with audiences from across the country. For many students, the trip was more than just a performance, it was an unforgettable experience filled with growth and celebration.
Under the direction of Band Director Courtney Pilgrim, the Titans delivered a strong performance while also enjoying time together as a group, strengthening the bonds that make the program so special. “I love taking our students on trips like this because it gives them the opportunity to perform for new audiences and experience music beyond the classroom,” said Pilgrim. “These moments build confidence, create lasting memories, and remind students that their talents can take them far beyond LOA.”
For Junior classman and Drum Major Marlee Lyon, the trip represented both excitement and pride. “The trip feels a little different for me with year, I’m especially missing all the seniors who graduated last year,” Lyon said. “But it’s given me the opportunity to step into a leadership role and help guide the younger students. It’s special to support them and experience this together as a band.”
In addition to their performance, students enjoyed exploring the park and participating in the festival activities, making the trip a perfect blend of music, travel and fun. Middle school student Yash Patel, a saxophone player, shared that the many friendships within the band were a big part of what made the trip meaningful. “I wanted to go on this trip because band is like any other team, we are a big family,” Patel said. “Getting to travel, perform and also have fun together makes it even better.”
Experiences like this highlight the strength of Lake Oconee Academy’s Fine Arts program and its commitment to providing students with opportunities to grow both as musicians and as individuals.
As the final notes of their performance echoed through Dollywood, one thing was clear: LOA’s band is not only talented, but thriving, united and ready to take the stage wherever their journey leads next!
