On March 28, six high school students from across Greene County took part in TEDx Youth Greene County, delivering original talks centered around this year’s theme, “Beyond Limits.” The event, a collaborative effort between Lake Oconee Academy and Greene County School System, brought together student voices from both schools for an inspiring, community-wide experience.
LOA proudly celebrates its first group of students to present on the TEDx stage: Amelia Ingle (9th grade), Matthew Vaughan (11th grade), Shelby Marullo (11th grade) and Addison Kelley (11th grade) marked a meaningful milestone for both the students and the Titan community.
Each student delivered a thoughtful and deeply personal talk, demonstrating remarkable courage, preparation and poise. “These students were absolutely incredible,” said Danna Seigle, LOA Upper School Instructional Coordinator. “The bravery and confidence they displayed while inspiring the entire audience of adults and peers was a delight that continues to fuel my week.”
Shelby Marullo reflected on the experience as both challenging and rewarding. “This experience pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but it also showed me the power of using my voice,” said Marullo. “I realized that one idea could change everything for somebody. Sharing my life story on the TEDx stage was an honor, but knowing it might reach someone when they need it most is what truly meant the world to me.”
“Speaking at the first TEDx event in Greene County was an amazing experience,” shared Matthew Vaughn. “It meant so much that lots of people came out to hear us speak, and I hope they were inspired by all the talks. At first, I felt a little nervous, but after getting into my speech, it got easier. It actually felt awesome being in the spotlight! I’m excited to see how the videos turn out and would absolutely recommend doing a TEDx talk to anyone looking to have a great experience.”
Through their participation, these students exemplified Lake Oconee Academy’s commitment to developing confident communicators, critical thinkers and engaged citizens. Their voices, ideas and willingness to step beyond limits reflect the school’s mission to prepare students to lead and inspire within their communities and beyond. LOA congratulates these outstanding students on their achievement and proudly celebrates their role in this historic, county-wide event.
