LOA Band Earns High Marks at State Evaluation 🎶Congratulations to our Concert Band student’s in 8th – 12th grade, on their outstanding performance at State Performance Evaluation on March 11. During this annual state event, bands perform three prepared musical selections for a panel of judges and are also asked to sight read a brand new piece of music they have never seen before. Judges evaluate ensembles based on tone, technique, musicality, and overall performance.
We are proud to share that our Titans earned:
⭐ Excellent ratings on the stage performance
⭐ Superior ratings in sight reading
These results reflect the dedication, preparation, and musicianship of our talented students and the leadership of Band Director Courtney Pilgrim. Congratulations to our LOA band members for representing our school with excellence.

Good morning and Happy St. Patrick’s Day from LOA! 🍀 Rumor has it… a leprechaun is on the loose and there’s a little mischief in Kindergarten as students create Lucky Charms graphs, while others are busy building rainbows in STEM. 👀✨ It’s a magical day of learning and fun across campus!

AP Environmental Science… but make it speed dating. Students in Ms. Mooney’s AP Environmental Science class recently participated in an “Energy Speed Dating” activity to learn about different alternative energy sources. Each student researched an energy source and shared its strengths, challenges, and long term potential with classmates. To make things even more fun, students created science themed pickup lines tied to their energy source. One favorite: “Are you a solar array? Because you’ve got a lot of potential.” Creative activities like this help students connect environmental science concepts with collaboration, curiosity and critical thinking.

Leadership in Action. When LOA students see a problem, they also see an opportunity to lead. Recently, middle school Student Government members partnered with high school SGA mentors to address a concern affecting younger students on campus. Through research, collaboration and a formal proposal process, the group presented a thoughtful recommendation to school leadership. This week, their work resulted in a small but meaningful improvement for our lower school students. More importantly, the experience gave these young leaders a chance to practice advocacy, problem solving and mentorship across grade levels. At LOA, leadership is not just something we talk about. It's something our students actively practice.

STEM in Action at LOA. Engineering minds were hard at work in the library. Using simple materials like craft sticks and connectors, our elementary students took on a design challenge: Build a structure that stands tall, stays stable and work as a team.
Students were busy testing hypotheses, exploring balance and stability, discovering why triangles create stronger structures, problem solving when structures toppled, and collaborating to revising their designs. There were cheers when towers stood tall and thoughtful regrouping when gravity won the round! At LOA, STEM begins early. We believe hands-on exploration builds confident thinkers, creative problem solvers and future innovators. Learning by doing. Building by thinking. Growing together.

One School. One Mission. One Titan.
Did you know, each year our second graders step into the high school science lab for a hands-on learning experience they will never forget? Invited by our high school students and faculty, our youngest scientists have the opportunity to handle real microscopes, examine specimen, and even get a close-up look at the tools used in advanced biology labs. For our elementary students, this is exciting and inspiring. For our high schoolers, it’s an opportunity to lead, mentor and model curiosity in action. This is what makes LOA special: Learning here is not isolated by grade level. It is connected, collaborative and rooted in relationships. Our students grow up seeing what comes next and our older students grow by helping lead the way. From second grade microscopes to advanced lab work, we are ONE Titan community.

Bringing History to Life 📚🎶The assignment: Write a song about the Cold War, set to a childhood tune. In Dr. Teal’s class, students took on the challenge of transforming complex historical content into creative, memorable performances. By pairing key Cold War concepts with familiar melodies, students demonstrated not only content mastery but also critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills. From superpower tensions to major events and global impact, these performances showed a deep understanding of the era, all delivered with confidence and creativity! This is what active learning looks like at LOA. Engaged students. Meaningful rigor. Learning that sticks. 💙

Turning Up the Volume on Learning! 🔬🔊 in Mrs. Carlton’s class students wrapped up their sound unit by designing and building their own amplifiers! Using simple materials and big ideas, students explored how sound waves travel, how amplification works and how engineering connects directly to science concepts learned in class.
Collaboration, creativity, problem-solving and a little trial and error made this project the perfect way to end our week.

Teacher Tuesday Spotlight ✨ This week, we are proud to spotlight Mrs. Amy Reber, a true gem of the Lake Oconee Academy community. To know her is to love her. Mrs. Reber teaches piano to students at every level, and her impact reaches far beyond the classroom. From composing original pieces for our theater program to tutoring and mentoring students as they grow in their musical abilities, her passion for music is evident in everything she does. What truly sets Mrs. Reber apart is her love for people. She brings warmth, encouragement and genuine care to her students and colleagues alike, creating a space where creativity and confidence can flourish.

A Literary Birthday Celebration in Miss Gay’s Class! After finishing Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, Miss Gay’s class realized something special… it was the author’s birthday! So what did they do? They celebrated, of course. Students honored Jacqueline Woodson, born in 1963, with a birthday party inspired by the year she was born. They created a “Top Hits of 1963” playlist, enjoyed festive treats, and reflected on the powerful themes woven throughout her memoir. This is what meaningful learning looks like at LOA. Reading deeply. Connecting historically. Celebrating creatively. Way to go, Miss Gay and students, for bringing literature to life in such a memorable way.

Thankful Thursday! Today we’re sending a huge THANK YOU to our LOA families and community supporters! Because of the continued generosity, the Lake Oconee Academy Foundation recently funded the Titan Victory Van, making it easier for student-athletes to travel together. From preseason bonding adventures to games throughout the season, the Victory Van gives our students more than transportation: It gives them time together, building memories, laughter and team spirit. We are so grateful to the LOA Foundation for believing in our students and investing in experiences that strengthen connection, community and Titan pride.

Bench Press, but make it STEM. In 8th grade Computer Literacy class, Mr. Jiang’s students took on the challenge of building and programming their own LEGO robots and yes, they had to bench press! From design and coding to problem solving, the creativity in this room was off the charts. Watching our Titans think critically, collaborate and bring their ideas to life is what learning at LOA is all about.
